When President Obama travels to Mexico next week to meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, they will have no shortage of topics to talk about. This past week, I spoke with Kai Ryssdal of “Marketplace” about what their conversations on bilateral trade might cover. You can listen here.

It is amazing that despite this type of evidence as to why Mexico is really an opportunity, the White House, the US media as well as American society at large are so incredibly unaware of the reality of Mexico and what it represents for the US. Shannon O’Neil’s work represents the type of base that should be used as reference or guide in creating a framework for US policy towards Mexico, since Washington can’t seem to get past immigration or the border.
